Scorecards are tables in which the results of the games are recorded and published. They seem a little bit confusing but they are actually built very logical and if you know how to read them, easy to understand.

Before going in more details, you will have to know one more word; the word is maiden. It basically means that the bowler has managed to bowl an over without the batsman scoring any runs. So if the bowler bowls six balls and the batsman does not score any runs, the bowler has bowled a maiden. That’s all you have to know, then let’s go to the scorecard.

There are several things recorded in a scorecard.

For a Batsman are recorded: number of runs scored, time spend batting, number off balls faced, how out (if appropriate by which bowler and catcher) and the strike rate (runs/balls)

For a Bowler are recorded: number of overs bowled, number of maidens, number of wickets taken, wide balls, no balls and number of runs that occurred while he bowled which is also called Economy Rate.

For a Team are recorded: extra points, total runs, wickets fallen, overs bowled, total runs per wickets fallen and run rate (runs/overs)

These are the main things recorded. There can be more things recorded but they aren’t really necessary and are in general not published in scorecards.

Notice not all the data listed above can be found in every scorecard. It always depends on who publishes the scorecard.
