A batsman will get out for double hit if he hits the ball twice. This is also very rare but it occurs.
However, the batsman can not get out if:
- He hits the ball a second time to protect the wicket. For example by stopping the ball from rolling back.
- He returns the ball to the fielding team, if he has their permission.
Notice, the batsman will get out if he hits the ball a second time to prevent a catch. The batsman can also get out for double hit if he hits the ball to secure the wicket, but by doing so prevents a catch.
